As a child I longed to be a nurse and was frequently found in a nurses 'play' uniform injecting the family and listening to their heart beats. When I wasn't prodding and poking, prescribing lie downs and cold compresses for all - I would be seen taking temperatures and blood pressures and giving medicines.
When I look back I can see that I have been so blessed through my life to be able to set and achieve goals, realise ambitions and dreams and to a large extent have achieved this to a timetable I set early on.
Most people my age would be considering retirement now, but I have no such intention or desire......
At school I was very art, music and language focused. Not an academic bone in my body. Neither have I ever been competitive - so passing exams was not my thing.
Miraculously, I did well in
Art, Science, English and Music.
I loved painting and playing the violin and was an avid reader.
At 16 I had to leave school to work, as was our family tradition, and thus my short life in Art and Violin was halted.
But not forever!
Having nursed, then, all my life from being a Cadet Nurse in 1977, at age 16, until today, I had a successful career in Accident and Emergency and alternatively Renal nursing venturing up the ladder into general management. Subsequent to my escape from my beloved NHS I was blessed with enough courage and the wherewithal to be able to set up my own business looking after people in their own homes which is a labour of love and beyond privilege.
Amazingly and almost unexpectedly, in the last few years I have struck up a revived passion for all things creative, painting, design and making things. Gardening and growing things and also in music I have started to learn piano and taken up my violin again with great gusto and joy!
Oh the freedom of maturing and gaining confidence.
Not only that but all these things connect in the mind, body and soul, one thing leads to or inspires another.
I have always had a thing for design and colour but not in a conventional style - always a bit out there and abstract.
I love the original and the abstract and love to work with colour in challenging ways.
